Park Species Detail: Hill, 1986: Native to region. Aug.-Oct. Annual herb. Infrequent to rare on Assateague, seen only at bridge causeway, where it may have been introduced. Infrequent in MD overall. Reported as E. pungens (Poir.) Rydb. var. microstachya (Wieg.) Fern. & Grisc. by Higgins (Higgins #39), a synonym; found by her only on the VA end. Apparently reported as E. crus-galli (L.)
