It occurs naturally beyond the Unit at greater elevations to the north, where cooler and wetter. The two known sites are planted. In legacy NPSpecies Cultivation value was Persistent with comment: Apparently historically planted (or seeded?) in this Park Unit behind Headquarters as a wind break (?) and at Crystal Ice Caves, both where weakly persistent.
