Notes
Park Species Detail: Lea, C. April, 2000: This species was found to be fairly frequent in fresh water wetlands, including some roadside ditches. Few special management needs are contemplated, but the roadside populations should be evaluated to determine their overall contribution to the island population, in the event that future road construction and maintenance may be of concern. Some colonies may be somewhat threatened by Phragmites australis, which can be aggressive in its habitat. Based on Assateague populations alone, a rank change to S2S3 is recommended; a rank change of S3 (S3=Rare to uncommon; usually between 20 and 100 populations or occurrences; may have fewer occurrences, but with a large number of individuals in some populations; may be susceptible to large-scale disturbances) may be found to be appropriate, if it is targeted in future searches./
Hill, 1986: Native. Perennial herb. July-Oct. Salt marsh at fresh marsh transition, or in wet wooded areas. Rare (found at the State Park and North Beach);very rare in MD according to the MNHP. Higgins collected a single specimen from the VA end, Ragged Point, 8/12/66 (MARY). (Higgins #304). Sometimes combined with C. asiatica (L.) Urban. MD & VA./
