Park Species Detail: Garman (1991): 51 captures of 31 individuals during trapping in 1987 and 1988 in aspen-birch and red spruce habitats.
The Nature Conservancy (1985) Reports the chipmunk "ubiquitous" on MDI.
Coman (1987, 1981) one of the commonest and widely distributed mammals on MDI. It would be difficult to drive on the roads from spring through fall and not see at least 1 or 2 chipmunks.
Acadia National Park (1976): considered common and well distributed throughout the park for the period 1962 to 1976.
Packie and Nadeau (1975): Present within the park on MDI at Richardson's Brook and Hadlock Ponds; 11 individuals trapped here.
Manville (1960) report the eastern chipmunk is abundand and most conspicuous small mammal on Mount Desert Island.
Calhoun (1956): trapped on MDI during 1951, exact locations unknown.

Manville (1942): one of the most commonly observed mammal on the island; Manville (1942) reported this species on Cadillac Mountain summit.
