Bowes et al. (1999) Native to Mount Desert Island. Rainbow smelt eggs were transeferred to Eagle Lake (year unknown), and species was stocked into Lower Hadlock Pond in 1978. Considered native to many ponds on MDI (see below).

Park Species Detail: Bowes et al. (1999) documented within ANP during 1998; historically present in at least 9 of the 21 ponds in the park on Mount Desert Island recently documented at Eagle Lake (1998, J. Le), Echo Lake (1995), and Long Pond (winter 1992). Rainbow smelt eggs were transeferred to Eagle Lake (year unknown), and species was stocked into Lower Hadlock Pond in 1978. Considered native to Bubble Pond, Echo Lake, Jordan Pond, Long Pond, Seal Cove Pond, Somes Pond, Upper Hadlock Pond. Not considered native to Lake Wood or Little Long Pond, althoug no details of stocking given. Fuller and Cooper (1946) rare in Seal Cove Pond, common in Echo Lake, rare in Somes Pond, abundant in Long Pond, common in Upper Hadlock Pond, abundant in Jordan Pond, common in Eagle Lake, and questionable in Bubble Pond during the summer of 1942; collected during surveys with seines in Long Pond during the summer of 1942. Batchelder (1927): Common in ponds and often taken in salt water bays and inlets; Present within the park in watersheds east of Somes Sound., Park Species Data Source: Bowes et al.
