Notes
Park Species Detail: Garman (1991) trapped 1 individual during extensive trapping in 1987 and 1988 on MDI. Coman (1987, 1981) collected on MDI on 24 August 1934 (M. Branin), collected at Sieur de Monts Spring on 9 May 1936 (M. Sullivan), specimen found on Bay View Drive during July 1971 (C. Jellison), and 2 caught in mixed woods near Hadley's Beach in July 1972. Species hibernates in Maine. Packie and Nadeau (1975): Present in the park on MDI at Hadlock Pond; 1 lactating female trapped and released here. Calhoun (1951) trapped on MDI during 1950, exact locations unknown. Manville (1942): only 2 specimens recorded from Mount Desert Island; one specimen taken at Sieur de Monts Spring on 9 May 1939 (M. Sullivan), and another specimen taken east of Champlain Mountain on 24 August 1934 (M. Branin); also an adult and 9 young were unearthed from a nest near a small creek in dense woodland south of The Tarn on 7 September 1934 (V. Lunt). Branin (1939): A brood of 6 immature mice were observed; less common than Meadow Jumping Mouse on MDI; captured alive along a small woodland creek about 1 mile south of The Tarn (V. Lunt), and a specimen was trapped at the woods-meadow station east of Champlain Mountain. Branin (1936): adult male was collected on 24 August 1934 at the edge of a mixed woods of oak, maple, birch, and aspen, and at a point where this merges with the grassy tundra east of Champlain Mountain., Park Species Data Source: Garman (1991); Coman (1987, 1981); Packie and Nadeau (1975); Manville (1942); Branin (1939); Branin (1936)
