Park Species Detail: Found on Mainland and South Manitou Island. Intermediate forms with Storeria dekayi (Dekay's brownsnake) may occur in SLBE area.
Status Details: Holman et al. (1993) state that the Brown snake population in the Lower Peninsula of MI is a mix between the Northern Brown Snake (S. d. dekayi) and the Midland brown snake (S. d. wrightorum). This mixing of subspecies may account for the variation in color pattern seen in Michigan brown snakes., Park Species Data Source: Harding, James H. 1997.
