Notes
Park Species Detail: Bartgis, 1993: State rare plant, in Potomac Fall-Line. Found in Washington County, Little Pool and Roundtop Hill. Wiegand, 2001: One (I) new and five (5) previously reported occurrences for Ostrich fern (Matreuccia struthiopteris) were documented during this survey (from Sandy Hook, Maryland, to District of Columbia line). Generally these occurrences contain dense colonies of plants totaling between 100 and 500 clusters each. The largest occurrence reported during this survey is located on Turkey Island and consists of approximately 1,000 clusters. Total number of clusters seen in the survey area during 1999-2000 field surveys is approximately 2,000 - 2,500. With one notable up river exception, all populations for ostrich fern in the survey area occur on islands in the river. Wiegand, 1999: Documented to occur in the gorge during this survey from Great Falls, Maryland, downriver to the District of Columbia line. Wiegand, 1995: Three documentations in the survey area from Sandy Hook West to Cumberland, Maryland.
