Notes
Park Species Detail: Synonym = Sitanion hystrix var. hystrix or Sitanion hystrix var. californicus: Michael Curto did not make infraspecific assignments of this Park Unit's collections at time of original specimen identification. This is of little import as these specimens key to the nominal type (hystrix) or californicus; both are common in southern Idaho and differentiation between the two may not be meaningful (Curto pers. comm. with Steve Popovich, May 19, 2003). Habitat in this Park Unit = Most common in generic uplands; generally restricted to riparian areas or mesic sites Data derivation and tracking accountability (do not delete): Original data for this Park-Name Profile record were derived and entered by Steve J. Popovich, 1999-2005, team leader under University of Idaho Contract P.O. No. P0011391, based upon a preponderance of evidence and the best scientific and commercial data available, including personal knowledge of one or more of the following individuals: Steve J. Popovich (formerly Botanist, USDI BLM Idaho Shoshone Field Office, 1991-1997, Shoshone, ID, USA; Research Plant Ecologist, 1997-1999, USDI USGS, FRESC, Corvallis, OR, USA; intermittent private contractor 1999-2005; currently Botanist, USDA USFS, Fort Collins, CO, USA); Patricia L. Packard, Carol A. M. Prentice, and Linda C. Smithman (Herbarium CIC, Caldwell, ID, USA); Michael Curto (Herbaria OBI, San Luis Obispo, CA, USA, and UTC, Logan, UT, USA); Emerenciana 'Mering' G. Hurd (USDA USFS Intermountain Research Station, Boise, ID, USA); Nancy K. Cole (former Plant Ecologist, Idaho Power, Boise, ID, USA); Roger Rosentreter (USDI BLM Idaho State Office Botanist, Boise, ID, USA); N. Duane Atwood and James L. Reveal (Herbarium BRY, Provo, UT, USA); Robert K. Moseley (former Botanist, Idaho Conservation Data Center, Boise, ID, USA); Sandra Robins and Curtis Bjork (Lambert Erickson Weed Diagnostic Laboratory, University of Idaho, Moscow, ID, USA); the regional floral manuals Intermountain Flora - Vascular Plants of the Intermountain West, USA; A Utah Flora, and Flora of the Pacific Northwest; various appropriate botanical monographs; USDA NRCS PLANTS database as of 4/2005; Natural Heritage Program, Idaho Conservation Data Center database as of 4/2005; and local Unit National Park Service staff., Park Species Data Source: Original data derived by Steve J. Popovich 1992-2005 based upon a preponderance of evidence and the best scientific and commercial data available, University of Idaho Contract P.O. No. P0011391., Accepted Detail: Antiquated preferred local name = Sitanion hystrix (collected material is either var. hystrix or var. californicus).
