Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996.
Long (1987): abundant on MDI.
North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986.
Russell (1984?) common spring through fall; maximum spring count of 30+ at Sieur de Monts spring on 30 May 1971 (W. Townsend et al.); The Sieur de Monts Spring area, the area between Jordan Pond and Eagle Lake, and the west side of the Beech Hill Road has a large number of breeding pairs.
Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984.
Bond (1969) one of the commonest birds on MDI.
Palmer (1949): nest and eggs observed on 10 June (year?) on MDI.
Bond (19??) common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found.
Tyson and Bond (1941): Common about villages on MDI.
Sullivan (1937): Very common summer resident from May to October (Pellew).
Farley (1935) reported 23+ pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934.
Eliot (1931): Common in the Northeast Harbor area, distributed over whole area, settled or wild. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 1 June 1915 and 1 June 1916.
Reiche and Burton (1924) observed or collected in the Oak Meadow region east of Newport (=Champlain) Mountain between 1 July and 8 August, 1924.
