Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Nesting on MDI (Long 1987), although no records within park boundaries are given. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984. Allen (1969): Present at Western Point; juvenile birds observed begging for food. Bond (1969) can be heard from the lowlands as wall as on the mountain tops on MDI. Davis (1961): Present in his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI between 25 June and 5 July 1959; considered a breeding bird. Long (1951) a nest was found at Southwest Harbor on 17 June 1950. Palmer (1949) There is reliable evidence that this species wintered on MDI. Bond (19??) common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Common and widespread on MDI; mountain tops are frequented by this species. Sullivan (1937) abundant summer resident from April to November (Pellew); observed in December 1934, 1936, 1937. Farley (1935) observed 31+ pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Anthony (1933): 177 banded at Great Head between 12 August 1929 and 26 June 1933. Eliot (1931): Common in the Northeast Harbor area, distributed over whole area, settled or wild; less numerous now than of old. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 24 May 1916 and 1 June 1916.
