native range from eastern SD across the lake states to the St. Lawrence River system, south to nothern Georgia and west to the Ozarks, introduced to wyoming as early as 1889 when it was introduced unsuccessfully into the Laramie River and Hutton Lake near Laramie, became established in ponds near Sheridan, WY during 1960s. Fishes of Wyoming (G. T. Baxter and M. D. Stone, 1995) states "In Wyoming, the smallmouth bass was first introduced as early as 1889 (Miller 1890) when it was introduced unseccessfully into the Laramie River and Hutton Lake near Laramie.; Data Source: Fishes of Wyoming by George T.
