Park staff has observed this frog in numerous locations, especially Highland Creek and Hidden Valley.This species was found by Smith (1996) at localities alongside SD 87, from the north entrance to WICA for about 2 miles north into Custer State Park.

Likely habitat exists along Beaver Creek and at 2 pond located along an unnamed canyon off of which the canyon to Limestone Spring forks. Since Smiths' survey park staff has found them in numerous locations in the park, especially during the wet period of the late 1990's.
