Regularly heard during early nightime hours on frog and toad surveys island-wide (A. Egan, pers. comm., August 2005). Recorded as Philohela minor in Johnsson, Shelton, and Jordan 1982, and in Krefting, Lee, Shelton, and Gilbert 1966. Name change from Philohela minor in 1957 to Scolopax minor in 1983 as per The History of North American Bird Names in the American Ornithologists' Union Checklists 1886 - 2000.; Data Source: A.
