Male observed singing on breeding bird survey on Greenstone Ridge near West Chickenbone junction, 21 June 2005 (Egan 2005). 20 June 1995 (T. Gostomski, J. Oelfke, K. Coffman): Possible sighting of a female along the Passage Island trail; plumage on breast was very drab, hooked bill observed; call note heard was verified and supports this identification (Gostomski 1995). Sighted by R.O. Peterson, 27 June 1970 (Johnsson, Shelton, and Jordan 1982). In the early 1960's P.C. Shelton sighted this bird eight times, all between October and February; they were particularly conspicuous during the late winter in 1963 (Krefting, Lee, Shelton, and Gilbert 1966).; Data Source: Egan 2005. Uncommon winter visitant; possibly a rare summer resident; listed as a very common winter visitant around Thunder Bay, Ontario (Johnsson, Shelton, and Jordan 1982).     Uncommon winter visitant; possibly a rare summer resident; listed as a very common winter visitant around Thunder Bay, Ontario (Johnsson, Shelton, and Jordan 1982). The only confirmed breeding record for this species in Michigan (a female observed with nearly grown young) came from Isle Royale, "3 3/4 miles north of Windigo on the Greenstone Ridge," in 1965 (Payne 1983), (Gostomski 1995).; Data Source: Gostomski 1995.
