Notes
Park Species Detail: Synonym: Chelonia agassizi. Utzurrum states evidence that green sea turtles have been recorded from Tutuila's water and /or beaches. In Vatia Bay in NPSA, at least one green sea turtle was recovered (unknown if it was alive or dead), although the majority of turtles were reportedly from the Pago Harbor and Pala Lagoon. The NPS reference states that there is evidence the park's marine resources on Tutuila and Ofu are being over used and that sea turtles (didn't mention a specific species) utilize portions of these shorelines for nesting. Locating nesting sites were going to identified, and based on these locations, closures of these areas during the season to protect nests would be considered., Park Species Data Source: NATUREBIB-578428, Utzurrum 2002; NATUREBIB-557586, National Park Service 1997.
