Species may winter in the park, at least irruptively (winter of 2004-2005 was an irruptive year with northern hawk owls present throughout northern and northeastern Minnesota). Present, historic (J. Kaplan, pers. comm., 2002). M.M. Peet saw an adult and a young bird in downy plumage near Siskiwit Falls on August 4, 1905 (Johnsson, Shelton, and Jordan 1982), (Krefting, Lee, Shelton, and Gilbert 1966), (Peet 1909).; Data Source: J.
