Manville (1942) moose winter yard at Hunter's Beach Brook in the early to mid 1800's. Native to New England (Whitaker and Hamilton 1998), but was nearly extirpated in the 1800s and early 1900s. Native to Maine (Palmer 1937).

Manville (1942): Species once inhabited MDI and notes a moose winter yard at Hunter's Beach Brook; reports vagrant moose on the island now; reports details of a moose winter yard at Hunter's Beach Brook in the early to mid 1800's; no reports on MDI from 1859 until about the 1920's.
