Park Species Detail: Checklist information (abundance) updated 4/9/03 by professional judgement of Bruce Connery, ACAD wildlife biologist. Witt (1997) Reports this species in areas adjacent to the park. Russell (1984?) One record on MDI, 2 observed near Sand Beach on 31 December 1966 (CBC fide P. Favour). A handwritten note reports 2 at Otter Point from 30 December 1978 until 30 January 1979 (L. Crofoot, WR, POV). Favour (1970) reports this species on the MDI CBC on 31 December 1966; 2 males were observed at Seawall. Bond (19??) winter visitant; rare. Tyson and Bond (1941): A few were shot at Southwest Harbor and off Long Ledge. Sullivan (1937) One shot near Great Head.
