Park Species Detail: Checklist information (abundance) updated 4/8/03 by professional judgement of Bruce Connery, ACAD wildlife biologist. Long (1987): nest regularly 50 miles northeast of MDI at Wesley; no nests reported from MDI; species does not appear in summer near the coast. Russell (1984?) rare spring migrant, uncommon fall migrant; maximum spring count of 6 at Sieur de Monts Spring on 1 June 1968 (W. Russell); in the fall Otter Point and Ship Harbor are good locations to observe this species. Bond (1969) transient on MDI. Palmer (1949) 2 birds collected at Bar Harbor on 21 September 1899. Bond (19??) rare transient, September records. Tyson and Bond (1941): May nest occasionally on MDI; 2 taken at Bar Harbor on September 21, 1899 (no other details). Sullivan (1937): Rare transient; 2 taken by Batchelder and Dwight at Bar Harbor on 21 September 1899; one seen at Northeast Harbor by Tyson (Pellew). Eliot (1931) Observed on Mount Desert Island during June & July 1931; observed south of Southwest Harbor on July 2, 1931; also a bird seen near Bass Harbor on 2 July 1931. Allen (1899): "Two taken by C.F. Batchelder and Dr. J. Dwight at Seal Harbor, Sept. 21, 1899.", Park Species Data Source: Witt (1997) Legacy NPSpecies information may no longer be applicable, please remove if it is not applicable. In legacy NPSpecies Residency was Unknown with comment: Adamus (1983) breeding scattered throughout Maine; less common in southern and coastal regions.
