An uncommon summer resident of grasslands and open Great Basin desertscrub dominated by sagebrush or blackbrush along the southern half of the region, and rarely on the Arizona Strip. It is an uncommon spring and fairly common fall migrant on the rims and a rare migrant along the Colorado River. Spring migrants occur through 5 May, with fall birds beginning to appear 23 Aug. (Pooecetes gramineus) * Vesper Sparrow is an uncommon summer resident of grasslands and open Great Basin desertscrub dominated by sagebrush or blackbrush along the southern half of the region, and rarely on the Arizona Strip. It is an uncommon spring and fairly common fall migrant on the rims and a rare migrant along the Colorado River. Spring migrants occur through 5 May, with fall birds beginning to appear 23 Aug.
