Park Species Detail: Witt (1997) Reports this species in areas adjacent to the park.
Mittelhauser (1991) none observed from Great Head to Hunter's Beach on 20 January 1991; 1 observed from Seawall Point to Ship Harbor area on 20 January 1991.
Russell (1984?) Abundant to very abundant fall through spring, fairly common but local in summer. In October, thousands can be seen migrating offshore from Otter Point and Seawall.
Bond (19??) transient and winter resident on MDI; common. A few non-breeding drake white-winged scoters remain in the sheltered waters about MDI during the summer months.
Tyson and Bond (1941): Many regularly summer off Indian Point.
Sullivan (1937): Transient, common along the coast at all seasons, especially during migration; seen in summer off Indian Point.
Farley (1935) reports this species off Indian Point Island between 12 June and 22 June 1934.
Eliot (1931) Rare in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931; a small flock observed at Fernald's Point.
