Notes
Park Species Detail: DCR, 2003: Highly Invasive Species./Fleming, 2003: not sampled, or with very low frequency in plots; potentially invasive and require careful monitoring. The invasive strategy of Ailanthus, which is clearly intolerant of shade, involves the wind-dispersal of huge numbers of seeds. Mass releases of Ailanthus at several northern Virginia sites have been observed by the author. Even though continuing expansion of exotic populations seems inevitable, monitoring studies to quantify the impact of selective exotic species and experimental research and management to identify ecologically sound, effective treatments for their reduction is warranted./, Park Species Data Source: Belden and Fleming, 2001; Fleming, 2003
