Golden shiner is found on the east coast of North America from the Maritime Provinces south to Florida; west to the Dakotas and Texas. In Ontario it is found in all of the Great Lakes drainages, north to Lake Abitibi. Because of its wide use as bait, it has been introduced into many parts of the western United States to which it is not native (Scott and Crossman 1985).; Data Source: Scott and Crossman 1985.
