Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): range has been expanding northward; now common summer resident; nesting at Paradise Hill near Hulls Cove. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) common spring through fall; rare in winter; species has increased substantially as breeding birds since the 1947 fire; several pairs are typically at Sieur de Monts Spring and behind the ANP headquarters building in Hulls Cove. Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984. Favour (1970): Observed on 20 December 1958 during the MDI CBC at a Bar Harbor feeding station. Bond (1969) southern bird that has been extending its range northward, now a regular and rather common summer resident on the burnt lands. Nest discovered on the rocky slope of Paradise Hill near Hulls Cove. Palmer (1949) Present on MDI as early as 9 May 1936 (A. Brower); also observed on 12 May 1935 (Mrs. E.A. Anthony); present 5 to 10 October 1935 on MDI (Mrs. E.A. Anthony); present 17 October (year?) (Stupka); present 19 October 1930 on MDI (Mrs. E.A. Anthony). Bond (19??) vagrant from the south; several records in May and October. Sullivan (1937) Accidental visitor in summer; immature specimen taken by Tyson in 1918 (other observations with few location details given); One banded by Mrs. J.F. Anthony at Great Head in 1930. Anthony (1933): 1 banded at Great Head between 12 August 1929 and 26 June 1933. Eliot (1931): observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R.
