Park Species Detail: Shriner (2001) provides the most recent published records; Alsop (2001) considers this a breeding species in the park; juveniles caught at Purchase Knob from 2001 through 2004 are unlikely to have all traveled into the park from outside (Purchase Knob MAP ATBI Sensitivity = Public Species Notes: Common Permanent Resident; Breeds in Park; Formerly regarded as conspecific with P. MACULATUS (AOU 1998). Citing morphological, behavioral, and mtDNA differences (e.g., Ball and Avise 1992), AOU (1995) split the rufous-sided towhee into two species, P.
