Park Species Detail: Breeds on many islands in the vicinity including Thrumcap and Schoodic Island (Witt 1997). North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) Very abundant resident. Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984. Bond (1969) most abundant sea bird in the vicinity of MDI Davis (1961): Present in his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI during the summer of 1959; also observed or heard from his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI during the winter of 1958/59 and/or 1959/60. Bond (19??) Very common resident. Tyson and Bond (1941): Frequently seen flying inland to bathe in the ponds and lakes of MDI; also along mountain cliffs during the blueberry season. Sullivan (1937): abundant resident. Eliot (1931): Common in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931, distributed over whole area, settled or wild. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 1 June 1915 and 27 May 1916. Reiche and Burton (1924) observed or collected in the Oak Meadow region east of Newport (=Champlain) Mountain between 1 July and 8 August, 1924.
