Park Species Detail: Long (1987): Rare during summer on MDI.
Russell (1984?) common spring through fall. Maximum spring count of 7 in Sieur de Monts Spring area on 9 May 1972 (W. Russell). Sieur de Monts Spring, the Beech Mountain Trails, and the deciduous stands between Jordan Pond and Eagle Lake are all areas where birds can be seen.
Bond (1969) rare summer resident on MDI, numerous during migration in spring and fall; several nests have been found on MDI.
Bond (19??) fairly common transient, nests on the mainland in Hancock County.
Tyson and Bond (1941): Transient on MDI, fairly common.
Sullivan (1937): Summer resident; common especially in migration.
Eliot (1931) Rare in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931; only 1 pair found in June 1931, high on the northwest side of Sargent Mountain; a common breeder in some years. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 24 July 1915.
