Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): Nesting at Big Heath, Seawall. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984. Allen (1969): Nest found with 3 eggs at Western Point. Bond (1969) a pair was found nesting at Pretty Marsh in 1962. Davis (1961): Present in his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI between 25 June and 5 July 1959; considered a breeding bird; also observed or heard from his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI during the winter of 1958/59 and/or 1959/60. Palmer (1949) Abundant eastward to MDI by 17 March 1935; Shelley (1931) mentioned a bird having white wing-bars that was banded by Mrs. Anthony on 11 November 1930 at Bar Harbor, apparently it was an abnormally colored junco. Bond (19??) common summer resident much less numerous in winter; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Common on MDI; this species frequents the mountain tops. Sullivan (1937) resident; abundant in summer, scarce in winter Farley (1935) observed 32+ pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Anthony (1933): 384 banded at Great Head between 12 August 1929 and 26 June 1933. Eliot (1931): Common in the Northeast Harbor area, distributed over whole area, settled or wild. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 3 June 1915 and 25 May 1916.
