Incidental observation suggests that a peak in numbers in the late 1990's, to where they may have been considered "abundant", has decreased (A. Egan, pers. comm., August 2005). Abundant (Janke, Peterson, Peterson, and Lindsay 1994). Abundant summer resident; our records show a significant increase in numbers during our study (Van Buskirk and Smith 1994). Rare summer resident; few recent records; regional numbers have dropped sharply since the 1950's (Johnsson, Shelton, and Jordan 1982). Park Species Detail: Two records of Double-crested cormorants showing distinctive white flank patches - possible Double-crested cormorant x Great cormorant hybrids (Van Buskirk and Smith 1994).
