Park Species Detail: Russell (1984?) Abundant spring and fall migrant, casual in winter, abundant breeder. Lists observations outside of park. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Duley and North (1984) observed from Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984. Bond (1969) among the most abundant sea birds in the vicinity of MDI, but they have only recently (since about 1920) established breeding colonies here. Palmer (1949) 40 seen on 15 March 1937 at Bar Harbor by G. Swanson. Bond (19??) Summer resident (on a number of small islands) and transient. Common. Tyson and Bond (1941): Seen about the Trenton Bridge; numbers increase in late summer and early fall. Sullivan (1937): Resident to the MDI area, most abundant during spring and fall. Farley (1935) reports 9 birds at Mount Desert Island between 12 June and 22 June 1934.
