Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): Uncommon summer resident. Russell (1984?) uncommon spring migrant; uncommon to common fall migrant, one breeding record; Wet areas at Otter Point and Ship Harbor are good locations to see this species. Bond (1969) Posssibly does not nest on MDI; not uncommon during migration in spring and late summer. Bond (1949): Observed at a beaver flowage near Southwest Harbor in early June 1945. It sang constantly and could almost always be found within an area with a radius of not more than 100 yards, but did not find a mate. Bond (19??) very rare summer visitor, fairly common transient. Tyson and Bond (1941): Common transient and occasional summer resident on MDI. Sullivan (1937) rare summer resident. Eliot (1931) Not observed on MDI during June or July 1931 but previously reported from the island.
