Notes
Park Species Detail: Long (1987) winnowing and drumming observed at Northeast Creek, but no other evidence of nesting.
Russell (1984?) Uncommon spring migrant and in summer, uncommon to common fall migrant, casual in winter. Early record of 2 at Sand Beach Pond on 22 August 1972 (D. Cutler) also 22 at Bass Harbor Marsh (see observation). The Salt Marshes of Bass Harbor and Babson's Brook are particularly good spots.
Favour (1970): Observed on 23 December 1958 on a tiny unfrozen stream at Otter Creek by P. Favour. This is the third year a snipe, possibly the same individual, has wintered in the same spot.
Bond (1969) transient on MDI not known to breed; although a wisp of 3 with another winnowing overhead was observed along the upper reaches of Northeast Creek as late as 15 June (no year given).
Bond (1949): Bond observed this species observed in October on MDI.
Bond (19??) rather rare transient; nests in Washington County.
Sullivan (1937): Uncommon transient in fall.
