An uncommon spring and fall migrant throughout the region, and an uncommon winter resident along the Colorado River. It is irregularly present in large numbers, as with a flock of 150 seen at RM 1 on 12 Oct 1994 (Sogge et al. 1998) and 50 at Lees Ferry on 13 Jan 1991 (Charles T. LaRue). It is a casual summer visitor to the northern part of the region, where one was north of Mount Trumbull on 15 Jun 1997 and individuals were seen on the Kaibab Plateau in June 1971 (Fred Gehlbach) and on 25 Jul 1973 (Richard Wilt). Spring migrants may appear away from the river as early as 20 Mar, with fall migrants seen as late as 3 Nov and rarely into December. Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011.
