Park Species Detail: Breeding has been confirmed on MDI (Witt 1997; Long 1987). Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): Golden-crowned Kinglets are more common than Ruby-crowned Kinglets on MDI. Russell (1984?) common resident; very common during migration; 50 were counted at Otter Point on 29 September 1968 (W. Russel et al.); best places to observe is at Otter Point, Ship Harbor, and along the Western Mountain Fire Road. Allen (1969): most abundant bird at Western Point; 5 nesting paris in study area. Bond (1969) several nests have been found on MDI. Davis (1961): Present in his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI between 25 June and 5 July 1959; considered a breeding bird. Long (1951) a nest was found with 10 eggs (8 birds fledged) on MDI on 4 June 1950. Palmer (1949): 9 fresh eggs on 3 June 1941 on MDI. Bond (19??) common resident; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Common on MDI; mor numerous during the colder months. Sullivan (1937): Abundant resident, less frequent in winter; nest with young being fed seen 23 June 1924 (no location given). Farley (1935) reported 2 pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Eliot (1931): Common in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931, less generally distributed. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 3 June 1915 and 6 June 1916.
