Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996; not sure if this species was recorded within park boundaries. Long (1987): Nesting at Bass Harbor Marsh. Russell (1984?) very common spring migrant, common breeder, very common to abundant fall migrant; 1 noted in a gravel pit near the Bass Harbor Light on 22 November 1973 (W. Russell); Bass Harbor Marsh and the fields around Otter Point are prime locations. Bond (1969) Inhabits meadows and open bogs and salt marshes. Bond (19??) common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Present on MDI. Sullivan (1937): Abundant summer resident from April to October (Pellew). Farley (1935) observed 34 pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Anthony (1933): 3 banded at Great Head between 12 August 1929 and 26 June 1933. Eliot (1931): Uncommon in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931 (but common on MDI as a whole); reported nesting. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 19 July 1915. Reiche and Burton (1924) observed or collected in the Oak Meadow region east of Newport (=Champlain) Mountain between 1 July and 8 August, 1924.
