    Davis (1961) considered a breeding species at all 5 spruce/fir study sites within the park on MDI during the summer of 1959. See Sharp (1997). Adamus (1983) breeding throughout Maine including ANP region, mostly absent from the southwestern part of Maine.

Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Breeds on MDI (Long 1987), although no records listed for within park boundaries. Long (1987): Common on MDI. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) common spring migrant and breeder; very common fall migrant; the forests at Otter Point, Bass Harbor Head, and Pretty Marsh are good breeding localities. Allen (1969): 3 pairs estimated at Western Point based on observations of singing males (presumably birds on territory). Bond (1969) common on MDI. Davis (1961): Present in his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI between 25 June and 5 July 1959; considered a breeding bird. Bond (19??) common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found. Long (1951) nest with 4 young was observed at Long Pond on 20 June 1950. Tyson and Bond (1941): Present on MDI. Sullivan (1937): Very common summer resident from May to October (Pellew). Farley (1935) reported 28 pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Eliot (1931): Common on MDI, distributed over whole area, settled or wild. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 3 June 1916 and 27 May 1916.
