Uncommon migrant, occasional breeder, accidental in winter

Park Species Detail: Woods (1997): 64 were observed from Cadillac Mountain during 37 days of observations between 2 September and 14 October 1997. Woods (1995): 89 were observed from Cadillac Mountain during 31 days of observations between 28 August and 17 October 1995. College of the Atlantic (1988): 56 were observed from Beech Mountain during 27 days of observations between 12 September and 12 October 1988. Long (1987) a few pairs summer on MDI; best localities are Seal Cove Pond, the heaths between Ship Harbor and Seawall, and Fresh Meadow; Nests found at Fresh Meadow (early 1970's) and on MDI (1941). Major (1987): 105 were observed from Beech Mountain during 75 days of observations between 31 August and 15 November 1987. Major and Mittelhauser (1986): 110 were observed from Beech Mountain during 76 days of observations between 30 August and 13 November 1986. Russell (1984?) Uncommon spring and fall migrant, rare in summer, accidental in winter. Nest with 5 eggs in Northeast Creek area on 15 June 1973 (J. Laurence, R. Allen, et al.). Baird (1983) recorded from Beech Mountain during the fall of 1980. Bond (1975) nest found at Fresh Meadow (Northeast Creek). Favour (1970): 1 observed by Arthur Hathaway on 25 December 1962 "along Ocean Drive". Bond (1969) a few pairs summer on MDI, but it is seldom that one encounters this species here; perhaps the best localities are at the southern end of Seal Cove Pond and in the swamp between Ship Harbor and Sea Wall; nest discovered on MDI in early June 1941 (no location given). Palmer (1949) 3 eggs advanced in incubation were observed on 6 June 1941 on MDI (Eckstorm). Bond (19??) rare summer resident; more numerous as a transient; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): A pair or more breed on MDI. Breeding at Fresh Meadow. Sullivan (1937): fairly common summer resident, April - October. Farley (1935) reports 1 pair at Marshall Creek on 13 June 1934. Eliot (1931) Observed on Mount Desert Island during June 1931; one seen at Seawall on 20 June 1931, bred a few years ago on Long Pond Meadows. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins during 1916.
